Fiji's vice president has denied serious coup related charges relating to his swearing in as the usurper president during the May 2000 coup.

The Fiji Times says Ratu Jope Seniloli has pleaded not guilty to charges of taking an unlawful oath to commit a capital offence and engaging in a seditious enterprise.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure, the Sports Minister, Isireli Leweniqilia and three other men have also pleaded not guilty to the same charges for being sworn in as ministers in George Speight's failed administration.

Their High Court trial will begin in June.
