The deputy head of the Solomon Islands police says public confidence in them has been restored and they have an exciting future ahead this year.

Ben McDevitt, the Deputy Police Commissioner and the head of police operations under the Regional Assistance Mission, or Ramsi, says there's been a very public cleansing of the police force.

He says public trust is being restored and this will be a good year for the force.

"We are identifying a recruitment team at the moment and they will be out and about in the various provinces starting to recruit our new RSIP members, and I am actually quite excited about that, about new police coming in, about giving them the very best in training, equipping them properly and then delpoying them out and across the Solomon Islands'"
