Commonwealth Broadcaster's meeting in Nadi to focus on next generation

5:04 pm on 16 February 2004

The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association conference this week in Fiji will focus on the youth market.

The secretary general of the association, Elizabeth Smith, says the conference will centre around programming, management and technology for the next generation.

"In the programming area we're looking at some youth programming and one of the sessions is on what children want and seldom get, and we've actually got some Fijian children who are coming to talk in that session. In the management session we are issuing some new guidelines for public service broadcasters and that includes health guidelines. And then in the techology sessions we've got a lot about going digital and about some of the new technological advances in broadcasting."

The conference in Nadi has attracted hundreds of delegates from throughout the Commonwealth.

It is being opened tomorrow by Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase.
