Fiji court issues arrest warrants against Lands Trust Board officials

7:31 am on 27 February 2004

The Lautoka High Court has issued an arrest warrant against the general manager of Fiji's Native Lands Trust Board, Kalivati Bakani.

The warrant also orders the arrest of the NLTB's secretary, Emosi Toga, and its general manager finance, Joveci Tuinamuana.

The three are alleged to have paid nearly 70 thousand US dollars in disputed rent money to a group of Nadi villagers in defiance of an earlier court order which sought to restrain them from doing so.

Lautoka judge, Justice John Connors, issued the warrants against the three after they failed to appear to answer contempt of court charges on February 16th.

They have been ordered to appear in the Lautoka High Court on Monday.
