WHO says introduction of PNG's HIV/AIDS treatment programme is a sign of failure

The World Health Organisation says Papua New Guinea has failed to prevent HIV/AIDS from spreading.

Dr Yves Renault from the W-H-O says yesterday's introduction of an anti-retro-viral treatment programme was a sign that PNG had failed to prevent the spread of the virus from becoming a generalised epidemic.

Dr Renault says the therapy programme should reach 3-thousand people by early 2006, but he said this depended on the government funding the programme.
