Authorities in Fiji have begun investigations into a Get Rich Quick scheme which has been advertised in a local newspaper.

Headed "The Million Dollar Connection" the advertiser invites people to invest 15 hundred dollars in the scheme for returns of 30 thousand US dollars a month.

It gives a local phone and fax number and email address.

Officials of the Ministry of Commerce have now begun investigations into a possible breach of the Fair Trading Decree

A similar pyramid scheme which surfaced in the Solomon Islands last year resulted in thousands of poor people losing hundreds of dollars to fraudsters.

The perpetrators of the scheme were subsequently caught and jailed but the investors did not recover their money.
