Former senior Solomons policeman convicted on seven charges

A former Solomon Islands police superintendent Manasseh Maelanga is to be sentenced on Friday after being found guilty of seven charges in two separate trials over the past two weeks.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that he was found guilty in the Magistrate's Court of common assault and causing malicious damage at the Mendana Hotel in December 2002

The victim of the assault was the Health Minister Benjamin Una.

In a separate trial he was convicted of malicious damage, simple larceny, initimidation and demanding money with menaces at the Point Cruz Yacht Club in May 2002.
