Cook Islands composers prepare for music competition

11:20 am on 17 March 2004

Entries for this year's Cook Islands composers competition are being called as organisers seek sponsors.

A Ministry of Culture Development spokesperson, Raemaki Karati, says the competition has been on hold because of the lack of sponsorship.

He says composers are keen on the competition, for which they have to use Cook Islands Maori.

Mr Karati says he hopes the competition won't have to be deferred again.

"Unfortunately it has been pretty hard to get sponsors to come out to sponsor events like this. That's been the problem in the past years and probably the reason why it hasn't happened between 1997 and 2002."
