More industrial logging in Solomon Islands Marovo Lagoon

The coordinator of a environmental programme in Solomon Islands says he's very disappointed by the logging in Marovo Lagoon.

Industrial scale logging has started on the double chain of barrier islands of Marovo Lagoon and Bili Island.

The area had been set aside as a pilot site for the International Water Programme to look into the sustainable management of resources.

It's national coordinator, Kenneth Bulehiti, says they are now concentrating their efforts on protecting two other islands from the loggers.

"There are a couple of other islands here that we are looking into. One we are bascially late on that, they have basically cut and harvested all the forest within that island. We are hoping it dosen't go into other islands within the project site as well."
