Fiji's National airline, Air Pacific, has reduced fares on its South Pacific routes by 30 percent in response to competition.

Air New Zealand and its no-frills subsidiary, Freedom Air, had earlier announced sharply reduced fares and Virgin Blue said it would also have low fares when it enters the Fiji market in September.

Air Pacific fares have gone down on routes to Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and the South Pacific island destinations of Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.

Tickets are now on sale for flights beginning on May 1st.
