French Pacific meeting cancelled

11:25 am on 31 March 2004

A summit of leaders from French Pacific territories which was delayed has now been called off without setting a fresh date.

The leaders were to meet in French Polynesia to discuss projects of the South Pacific Economic Cooperation, Social and Cultural Fund.

The delegations from New Calendonia and Wallis and Futuna could not make it to Papeete because of an aircraft problem.

The New Caledonian election in May has prompted the Fund to defer its meeting until a date yet to be set.

The Tahitipresse news agency says key decisions have not been affected.
