American Samoa court to hear contempt case

9:26 am on 13 April 2004

The High Court in American Samoa will sit tomorrow to hear the contempt citation application filed by the Senate Select Investigative Committee against the police commissioner and the jail warden who ignored a subpoena to appear before the committee.

The court will also hear the Committee's second application for contempt against the attorney-general, Fiti Sunia, who told the police commissioner and the warden not to answer the subpoena.

Meanwhile, three former government employees that the committee identified as stealing property belonging to the School Lunch Programme will appear in court this morning for pre-trial conferences.

The three, including former programme manager, Toetu Solaita, were charged early this year foe allegedly taking home or selling food items and properies belonging to the programme.

All three have entered not guilty pleas.
