The Solomon Islands Central Bank says the economy began growing agian late last year after a prolonged decline.

The Bank says growth for the year 2003 was nearly four percent after what is described as negative growth for four years as a direct result of the ethnic unrest.

It says there was a major increase in the commodities for export as there was an improvement in government finances after the arrival of the Regional Assistance Mission.

According to Solomon Islands radio, the Bank says RAMSI's presence enabled the government to pay salaries and meet some of its domestic obligations.
