American Samoa governor Togiola Tulafono has praised Aloha Airlines for opening up a new travel destination for American Samoa residents to holiday.

When Aloha launched two weekly flights between Honolulu and Pago Pago in December, it also opened up two weekly flights between the territory and Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.

Togiola says the 99-US dollar one-way fare from Pago Pago to Rarotonga is a great bargain, providing a new destination for territorial residents wishing to visit nearby countries.

He has thanked Aloha for opening the new route and urged local residents to take advantage of the destination.

Neigbouring Samoa has been the number one holiday spot for decades due to its close proximity and the round trip fare of only 129 dollars.
