About 120 New Zealand Defence Force personnel are to stay on in Solomon Islands for a further two months.

The personnel, which include two helicopter crews and an infantry platoon, are part of the multi-national Regional Assistance Mission to restore law and order, which began last July.

New Zealand's Defence Minister has indicated that the military element in RAMSI, including that provided by Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Tonga, is now likely to withdraw at the end of July.
