Reports from Solomon Islands say local police officers have cast doubt on the possibility that Solomon Islanders may have been involved in last month's alleged rape of a female soldier of the RAMSI mission.

The woman alleged she was abducted and raped.

There have been no arrests and police say it will take weeks before their investigation is completed.

Reliable police sources say they doubt any Solomon Islander in his right mind would go near the area where the alleged rape occurred.

They say this is because the area is under 24 hours surveillance by armed RAMSI forces.

The police minister had called for the an urgent investigation, saying the country's image was being tarnished by the incident.
