Government no longer valid, says Nauru MP

An opposition MP in Nauru has rejected claims by the President that his government is constitutionally valid.

Dr Kieren Keke says the government has been operating outside the constitution as there's no longer a budget.

But President Harris claims the government's constitutionally valid and he vows to carry out business as usual.

Dr Keke says they'll be challenging his position.

"There's no way that you can come to that conclusion. There've been multiple opinions given by people with vast legal experience in Nauru that dispute that, and currently, we've put in a writ in the Supreme Court in Nauru to challenge it in the court."
