Strike at radio and television in Wallis and Futuna

3:56 pm on 12 May 2004

Television and radio in the French territory of Wallis and Futuna have gone off the air because of a strike.

About 30 of the more than 50 union members at the broadcaster RFO have walked off the job after demanding that the regional management be dismissed.

The striking workers also want a reorganisation of the technical services and administrative changes.

The head of RFO, Jean-Michel Besse, has been contacted but the unionists have so far refused to negotiate with the regional managers.
