3:52 pm on 13 May 2004

American Samoa's auditor, George Webster, has called a decision by the Development Bank of American Samoa board to stall a planned audit of the bank unlawful obstruction.

Mr Webster has told the Acting President of the Development Bank, Suli Sopoaga, and members of the Bank's board by letter that the bank has no authority to obstruct a Territorial Audit Office audit.

He also told her that they have no authority to tell the office what, and when to audit.

Mr Webster says he will pursue all legal remedies to enable the office to perform the proposed audit and to determine if any sanction, and or fines are in order.
