Fiji's national airline hikes fares

10:27 am on 14 May 2004

There's been a sharp rise in fuel prices in Fiji from today as crude oil prices reached over US$40 a barrel, their highest level in 15 years.

Petrol, diesel, kerosene and pre-mix fuel for outboard motors have all gone up.

Transport operators in Fiji are demanding higher fares and freight charges.

The national airline, Air Pacific, has imposed a US$10 surcharge on international tickets to be effective from Monday.

The fuel surcharge is similar to ones imposed by Air New Zealand, Qantas, British Airways and several American airlines.
