Tonga is still considering whether to send forces to Iraq.
Senior Tongan military officers have flown to Kuwait for discussion with US commanders.
Tonga's chief secretary, Eseta Fusitua, says any deployment would be in line with Tonga's other efforts to fulfil its international obligations.
"We wanted to make a statement that we support the coalition work in Iraq. The situation now is highly volatile, so I think now probably we wait to see what actually transpires after the recent events."
