An opposition party in French Polynesia says an attempt by opposition parties to fight imminent elections together has ended in disunity.
Stanley Cross, the leader of the Te Hono Party, says the coalition that it refused to join, but which was formed by four other parties, has ended in divisions that will not help them unseat the President, Gaston Flosse.
"The coalition has, what do we say ... there is a division and now there are five lists. Before you have in this coalition the Tavini Huiraatira and after that the Fetia Api go out, the Mana hune is going out, the la mana te Nunaa is going out. That is four parties, they leave the coalition, so it's not really good for this coalition because they see that they have not the unity."
Stanley Cross says this has boosted his party's chances because it wanted to be independent of the coalition from the start.
