Marshall Islands jails Chinese overstayer

A Chinese national has been sentenced to six months jail for overstaying in the Marshall Islands .

Baoli Dong originally arrived in April 2003 and was given a 30-day visa, but he was sentenced in the High Court for violating the terms of his visa.

The Marshall Islands government has launched a crackdown on 20 Chinese overstayers so far .

Baoli Dong, who was first charged in January, was given six months in jail by

Judge Richard Hickson for failing to leave.

Judge Hickson says Mr Dong had applied for an alien registration card and entry permit, but without provide proper documentation.

Immigration denied Mr Dong's application, but located him last year working in a Taiwanese-owned store .
