Samoa's cabinet has approved the use of 1.2 million New Zealand dollars from its Unforseen Budget Allocation to finance fees for patients who have been referred for overseas treatment.

This follows the the increasing number of local patients being transferred overseas with the majority sent to New Zealand for necessary medical attention.

The New Zealand specialist in charge of Samoa's patients to New Zealand says the money will specifically cover the fees of patients who have already received medical treatment.
