Winners of worst companies in Fiji 2003 award named

The winners of the Draunisalato Award for worst company operating in Fiji in 2003 have been announced.

British American Tobacco, the Fiji Sugar Corporation and Courts Fiji Limited are the winners in the inaugural year of the Award.

The award was established by two NGOs: the Pacific Network on Globalisation and the Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy.

Co-ordinator for PANG and ECREA, Stanley Simpson, says the award is designed to draw scrutiny to these companies and promote accountability for their operations.

He says the NGOs involved don't want to be a consumer watchdog, but the pubic to take on the role by nominating companies, and providing supporting evidence...

Nominations for the Draunisalato award were sought from the public through advertisements in both the Fiji Times and Fiji Sun newspaper.
