5:43 pm on 8 June 2004

American Samoan congressional candidate, Aumua Amata Coleman, has begun her campaign to unseat the incumbent, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.

Amata, who announced her intention to run in February this year, says she has had overwhelming support from the public during her visits to a number of villages.

She says her goals are to improve the territory's health care and education systems and reduce economic dependency on the tuna industry.

She promised her supporters that, if elected, she will devote all her resources and energies to meeting the public's needs and ensuring that their concerns are heard in Congress.
