Minister wants inquiry into firm managed by George Speight's father

Fiji's agriculture minister, Jonetani Galuinadi, is calling for an inquiry into a company managed by the coup front man George Speight's father, Sam Speight.

Fiji TV reports that the call follows the government-supported Rewa Dairy Company's illegal import of five container loads of milk from Africa in breach of quarantine regulations.

The containers have been detained at Suva wharf.

Rewa Dairy has been unable to supply the local demand for milk but quarantine regulations require it to import only from its traditional sources in New Zealand and Australia.

Rewa Dairy is also under investigation by police and auditors after millions of dollars went missing in ways that have not been explained.

The company is not making any comments.
