French Polynesian opposition MP steps down

A member of the French Polynesian opposition has resigned less than a month after winning a seat for the Tahoeraa Huiraatira Party.

The Tahitipresse news agency reports that Sylvie Andre has stepped down, leaving her place in the assembly to Yvette Temauri.

Mrs Andre's has reportedly stepped down to devote more time to her job as president of the University of Polynesia.

Meanwhile, the assembly has formed 12 special commissions and two of them will be headed by opposition politicians.

The two are Jean-Christophe Bouissou and Teina Maraeura.
