Fiji police have charged a Chinese national with the murder of a newly-arrived Chinese woman.

Police say a Chinese national who'd jumped ship and was living illegally in the country has been charged over the murder of Wang Guiyang from Liaoming province.

Her decomposing body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase in a flat in the Suva suburb of Flagstaff.

Two Asian women who lived in the flat with the murder victim were taken into custody for questioning through interpreters but have since been released without charge.

The Chinese national, who is believed to be a fisherman, is expected to appear in court this afternoon.

The murder comes soon after the arrest of six Chinese in connection with a 600-million U.S. dollar drug bust in Suva.

And, it follows the Chinese Triad-connected murders of three Asians and a Fijian security guard in a Lami fish factory late last year which remains unsolved.
