Samoa tightens immigration rules for travellers from Tokelau

4:19 am on 1 July 2004

Tokelau's Director for Immigration says people travelling from Tokelau to Apia, won't be able to set foot in Samoa if they don't have a current, or machine-readable passport.

Zak Patelesio says those in breach of the new rules, stand to get fined.

Mr Patelesio says Samoa immigration authorities are now strict, in enforcing the new measures which came into effect two months ago.

He says this may pose problems for Tuvaluans and Samoans living in Tokelau, who don't have proper documents.
