Fiji ombudsman to report to Commonwealth on Vanuatu poll observations

The Pacific Islands Forum has praised its joint observer mission with the Commonwealth, for Vanuatu's election.

Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, says the partnership's an excellent model for future technical missions in the region.

Mr Urwin says the Forum will talk to the Vanuatu government about helpe the two organisations may be able to give with what he calls electoral machinery.

The Fiji ombudsman, Walter Rigamoto, who heads the Forum team, will brief the Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon on the election.

The Forum is set to give recommendations in a forthcoming report on the broad environment of the election and the balloting process, for the Vanuatu government and the Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Vanuatu.
