PNG civil aviation workers threaten strike action

3:59 pm on 14 July 2004

Civil Aviation Authority employees in Papua New Guinea say they could walk off the job at midnight tonight.

CAA workers from the air traffic, fire and technical services divisions are at loggerheads with the management over back-payments for pay from this year.

A union representative told the Post-Courier newspaper that CAA workers are holding a meeting today in Port Moresby to decide whether to walk off their jobs at midnight today or not.

This is despite a deal that was struck on Tuesday between the CAA management and union representatives from the CAA Combined Union, Traffic Controllers, National Technical Staff and Fire Fighters associations.

Management had agreed to meet most of the outstanding entitlements but other issues remain.
