American Samoan politician protest over Manu'a having separate flag

1:32 pm on 15 July 2004

In American Samoa, the Pago Pago Representative Muavaefaatasi Ae Ae Junior walked out when the Manu'a flag was raised at the island's centennial celebrations this morning.

The outspoken representative had aired his opposition to Manu'a having its own flag raised when American Samoa already has a flag for all of its islands.

Muavaefaatasi says he is in full support of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Deed of Cession.

But he says the Government has invited trouble by allowing the Manu'a flag to be raised.

He says this is an issue that the Legislature will take up when it reconvenes next week.
