Call at Manu'a celebrations for American Samoa to have own airline

3:58 pm on 15 July 2004

Leaders of the Manu'a Island group, have called on American Samoa governor, Togiola Tulafono, to establish a government airline that will resolve the air transportation problem faced by residents.

The call was made today by High Chief, Fofo Sunia during day one of the Manu'a Centennial Flag Day celebration in Pago Pago.

Mr Sunia reminded Togiola of the problem Manu'a residents faced with no Pago Pago-based airline and being forced to rely on the Samoan government owned airline, Polynesian. to provide a limited service.

Mr Sunia says Polynesian brings advantages for the people of Samoa and Togiola needs to look at how a similar locally owned service would also benefit Manu'a and the rest of American Samoa.
