Soccer matches will be a key focus of this week's first year anniversary celebrations for the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

A week of festivities begins this Saturday with a parade through Honiara, followed by a series of soccer matches, the highlight being the successful national men's team up against an All-Stars side.

On Sunday, a monument in the newly-constructed Rove Peace Park in Honiara will be unveiled on a site where the remains of almost 4-thousand destroyed guns have been buried and concreted over.

Overseas guests attending the festivities include the Prime Minister of Tonga, Prince Ulukalala Lavaka Ata, and senior ministers from the countries contributing to the RAMSI mission.

The regions will be partying as well, with sporting and community festivities throughout the week.
