Two French Pacific territories have for the first time shown interest in sending a contestant to the 2004 Miss South Pacific Pageant in American Samoa.

Pageant officials in Pago Pago say French Polynesia and New Caledonia have contacted the organising committee seeking information about the eligibility for sending a contestant to the regional pageantry.

The event is scheduled for a week in late October.

The reigning Miss South Pacific is Janice Matatu Atua-a-Manavaroa Nicholas of the Cook Islands.
