Outgoing Solomons magistrate highlights courts' needs

4:30 pm on 4 August 2004

The outgoing chief magistrate of Solomon Islands says the courts need to be developed.

David Chetwynd says the high court needs three additional judges while provincial courts need magistrates.

He says as Solomon Islands experiences economic hardship, Australia and other aid donors should help with the training of lawyers and the upgrading of courts and offices.

Mr Chetwynd ends his contract with the department of justice today.
