Police calm angry Solomons prison rioters

An official in Solomon Islands says unrest among a group of remand prisoners has been brought under control.

A radio report said inmates threw stones and tore down part of a fence at the Rove maximum security prison in Honiara.

The report says it is not known how the inmates got out of their cells.

The cause of the unrest is not known but an official says police calmed down the inmates.

Police have not been available for comment.
