Price of fuel shoots up in Fiji

7:20 am on 13 August 2004

Fuel prices in Fiji have shot up to levels not previously seen in the country following record increases in the price of crude on the world market.

Effective from today, the price of unleaded petrol has risen by 5 cents to US80c a litre and diesel fuel has gone up to US60c a litre.

Kerosene, which is widely used for rural cooking, is now to US42c and pre-mix outboard motor fuel for boats used in river and coastal travel has gone up to US67c.

Fiji's Prices and Incomes board has attributed the increases to a rise in the world price of crude and petroleum products.
