French Polynesian union reminds government of election promises

A union in French Polynesia says it will keep an eye on government promises after retracting its threat of a general strike linked to the way the social security office is run.

The O Oe To Oe Rima has told a media conference that the government has to implement what it promised during the campaign for the election held in late May.

The union's leader, Ronald Terorotua, who is also a member of the territorial assembly for the ruling coalition, says the new administration was elected on the promise of raising the monthly minimum wage to 1,500 US dollars.

Mr Terorotua has also warned that the stability of the government relies on the support of the two pro-autonomy politicians, Nicole Bouteau and Philip Schyle.
