A Papua New Guinea Supreme Court Judge, Justice Gibbs Salika, has been held up in Mount Hagen only weeks after the town held a peace ceremony following the killing of an Australian pilot.
The judge told the Post-Courier newspaper that a group of six to eight young men held him up with knives near his hotel, demanding money.
He says they found none and then took his hotel room key from his pocket with his coat and his walking shoes.
Justice Salika says he went back to the hotel where he telephoned police, but his call went unanswered.
He has called on the national government to do something to curb lawlessness, warning that the country would go under if no preventive measures were taken now.
He says only last week, his wife was held up and her car stolen in Port Moresby.
