Fiji's pro-coup Conservative Alliance to discuss Seniloli case

10:15 am on 20 August 2004

Discussions on the jailing of Fiji vice president Seniloli will take precedence at the caucus meeting of the government's junior coalition partner, the Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua party, on Monday.

The Fiji Sun reports that this has been confirmed by the party leader and lands minister, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

Ratu Naiqama says the caucus will discuss who it'll support for the position of acting vice president, and it'll announce its option after seeking legal advice.

Ratu Naiqama says the party's first option is to have the chief justice, Daniel Fatiaki, act as vice president.

But, he says, the constitution's not clear on this and the party will seek legal advice.

Ratu Naiqama himself has a charge pending against him for the Labasa army mutiny during the 2000 coup.
