Former Fiji chiefs chairman says Head of State situation is sad state of affairs

The former chairman of Fiji's Great Council of Chiefs, Ratu Epeli Ganilau, says Seniloli should resign for the sake of the country.

Ratu Epeli says it doesn't make sense to ordinary people in Fiji to see someone in jail still enjoying full pay.

He admits it's a concern for Fiji to carry on with a vice-president in jail, especially while the president himself is old and ailing

Ratu Epeli says the honourable thing for Seniloli to do is resign.

"The President is ailing, and he's old, but he's still there in office and he's carrying out the services expected from him. So with the vice-presidency post embroiled in this controversy, it does place a lot of pressure on him and also on government to see someone fill the vacancy."
