Officials set up regional air safety body

The Pacific Aviation Safety Office, a body being set up to help Pacific countries meet their international aviation obligations, should be fully operational within months.

Hondo Grattan, the interim manager of the Port Vila based office, says its development came from concerns among Forum island countries in the late 1990s about a need to improve aviation safety.

But he says since the attacks on the United States on September 11th, 2001, security concerns involving travel have been added to the office's responsibilities.
