Theft case against ex-minister in Samoa collapses

8:32 am on 28 August 2004

The trial on theft charges of a former Samoa cabinet minister has collapsed.

It is the third adjournment in the case against Toalepaialii Toeolesulusulu Salesa.

The judge called off the trial when he ruled the defence counsel had a right to receive copies of witness statements.

The prosecution conceded it had overlooked this matter.

Justice Nelson said adjourning the trial further meant a delay of almost two years.

The judge said there was much truth in the maxim that justice delayed can be justice denied.
