Marshall Islands fishing contest starts this weekend

Micronesia¹s showcase fishing tournament kicks off this Saturday, with at least 10 international teams competing against Marshall Islands fishermen for thousands of dollars in cash prizes and bragging rights in the region.

Teams from Pohnpei, Guam, Saipan, Kiribati, Nauru, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Hawaii will compete against four of the best teams of fishermen in the Marshall Islands.

More than $10,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs in the two day tournament for marlin, tuna and other fish.

Pohnpei's team led by Alex Tretnoff is the defending champion having won the contest in 2002 and 2003.
