A Solomon Islands Government Minister has been arrested by the police in Honiara this morning.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that Alex Bartlett, the Minister for Agriculture, is to be charged and will face the court later today for a bail hearing.

The SIBC quotes a Police spokesperson saying Bartlett will face four charges relating to demanding money with menaces, false pretences, inciting others to commit arson, and arson.

The count of arson relates to the burning of about 20 houses in Independence Valley at White River in 2000.

Police say two search warrants were executed at his home at Lengakiki and office at Ranadi this morning.
