Solomons PM open to ongoing opposition co-operation

7:28 am on 10 September 2004

The Solomon Islands' Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, says he'll continue to welcome opposition parliamentarians into government work.

Sir Allan says he'll accept those who are willing to take part in the re-building effort to join his coalition regime.

Sir Allan says this is because parliamentarians are responsible for the re-building effort under the Australian-led regional assistance mission to the Solomon Islands.

Sir Allan makes this qualification as more opposition MPs take up positions in government-initiated taskforces to oversee projects to be developed for the budgets this year and the following year.

He says the parliament approved RAMSI, therefore parliamentarians should feel responsible for its successful operation in the re-building efforts.

Sir Allan says a number of opposition MPs have either taken up government positions, or defected to the national coalition altogether.
