Power operation threatened in outer Marshall Islands atolls

11:23 am on 11 September 2004

An Energy Company in the Marshall Islands is calling for a government subsidy for two power operations on remote outer atolls, or they'll be forced to close at the end of the month.

The general manager of the Marshalls Energy Company made the comments to a parliamentary appropriations hearing.

In addition, the manager for the Marshalls Energy Company, William Roberts, says if the government doesn't pay for electric power usage in the capital, then Majuro may begin experiencing blackouts to reduce fuel usage.
