Fiji to get electronic airline ticketing

9:30 am on 16 September 2004

Electronic ticketing will be introduced in Fiji in a partnership between Air New Zealand and the Sabre Travel Network.

A senior Sabre official for Asia and the Pacific, Hans belle, as saying e-ticketing enables airlines to reduce costs by removing paper ticket documents used for boarding an aircraft, instead providing computerised storage of travel details.

The company says e-ticketing would also enable Air New Zealand to improve the airport check-in process, reduce the number of lost tickets and cut travel agents' costs.

The Fiji Times reports that the Sabre Network worldwide connects more than 400 airlines, about 60,000 hotels as well as rental car companies, railroads and tour operators.
